Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
